British Rail Class 168
The sleek and ground-breaking Class 168 "Clubman" diesel multiple unit was ordered in 1997 and built by ADtranz (later Bombardier) at York Works between 1998 and 2004. A fleet of 19 units was produced, securing a legendary place in railway history as the very first train type ordered and delivered for the UK's newly privatized network. Designed specifically for Chiltern Railways to provide an express, intercity-quality experience on suburban routes, they introduced an eye-catching, aerodynamic front end that set the blueprint for the entire modern "Turbostar" family. Boasting air conditioning, comfortable seating, and impressive acceleration, they successfully lured thousands of commuters off the motorways and onto the rails. Nearly three decades later, their superb reliability ensures the entire fleet remains in frontline service today.
